RANDY PORTER
His 2017 GRAMMY nomination reaffirmed what the Portland audience has known for decades—that Steinway artist Randy Porter is one of the most sophisticated and superb practitioners of this music. Raised in San Diego, Porter studied at the New England Conservatory where his teachers included colossal figures like Jaki Byard and Fred Hersch.
Randy Porter has performed and recorded with countless renowned musicians including Freddy Hubbard, Benny Golson, Anita O'Day , Harold Land, David Friesen, Wynton Marsalis, Stephane Grapelli, the New York Voices and many others. His career highlights include performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Lincoln Center, and Kennedy Center with Diane Schuur, performances at Kimball’s with Art Farmer and Clifford Jordan, The House of Blues in Chicago and BB King’s Blues Club in NYC with Gino Vannelli, and the Monterey Jazz Festival with Madeline Eastman. Porter has had a long association with the legendary saxophonist Charles McPherson—touring the world as part of his quartet, re-creating the music from the classic recording Charlie Parker with Strings, and performing McPherson’s Sweet Synergy Suite with the San Diego Ballet.
