- Change "Product Status" from Draft -> Publish
When a show is over:
- Upload all your show photos to the "Media" section.
- Change the "Theme Template" to "past-shows"
- Under "Collections", add to "Past Shows" and remove from "Upcoming Shows"

SoulPatch Music Productions is proud to present the Richard Sears Quintet featuring legendary drummer Albert 'Tootie' Heath on Saturday October 1st at Michelle's Piano Company (600 SE Stark St). Doors open at 6:30pm with the performance at 7:30pm. Admission is $15 at the door and open to all ages.
The New York-based Richard Sears Quintet performs in Portland as part of a West Coast tour presenting their new recording "ALTADENA". Commissioned in 2013 by the Los Angeles Jazz Society and Aaron Copland Fund, and released on Ropeadope Records, "ALTADENA" was recorded in the world-famous Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, CA. It's a five piece suite dedicated to Tootie Heath, each of the five parts based on the 81 year-old iconic drummer's different rhythmic grooves.
Born on May 31st 1935 in Philadelphia, Albert “Tootie” Heath was raised in a musical household as the younger brother of saxophonist Jimmy Heath and bassist Percy Heath. In pursuit of a musical career as a drummer, he moved to New York in 1957 and in a few months made his recording debut with John Coltrane for the saxophonist’s first recording “Coltrane”. Mr. Heath recorded with him again in 1960 on the album “Lush Life”. He also appeared on Nina Simone’s first record as a leader “Little Girl Blue”.
Tootie Heath’s career reads like a who’s who in jazz. He has recorded with Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk, Bobby Timmons, Yusef Lateef, Herbie Hancock, Milt Jackson, Wes Montgomery, Billy Taylor, Mal Waldron, Cedar Walton, J.J. Johnson, Mccoy Tyner, and countless others. In 1975 together with his brothers Jimmy and Percy, Tootie formed the Heath Brothers band. The band enjoyed international acclaim, toured extensively, and still performs with various bassists after Percy’s death in 2005.
Brooklyn based pianist Richard Sears possesses an original voice as an improviser and composer. He has performed with some of today's most important jazz musicians including Chick Corea, Mark Turner, Joshua Redman, Tootie Heath, Billy Hart, Roy McCurdy, Azar Lawrence, and others.
Richard keeps a busy schedule performing and teaching in the US and abroad. In April 2016, he gave a solo piano concert in Tangier for International Jazz Day, presented in conjunction with UNESCO and the US Embassy of Morocco. Currently, Richard serves on faculty at the New School for Contemporary Music in New York, and the Stanford Jazz Workshop in California.
